Russell, a seasoned professional with a wealth of expertise, brings a unique blend of qualifications and experience to his legal practice. With formal qualifications in Law, Town Planning, and Surveying (Building), Russell has been a trusted Principal Solicitor and Mediator for nearly two decades, specialising in diverse fields including Family Law, Criminal Law, Wills and Estates, Family Provision, Commercial Transactions, Planning and Environment, and Civil Litigation.
Throughout his career, Russell has appeared in Courts in many jurisdictions including as instructing solicitor in the Supreme Court of New South Wales as well as the Full Court of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He has also appeared as instructing solicitor in matters before the Full Court of the Family Court of Australia as well as appearing regularly himself in Local and District Courts. In addition, Russell has appeared as solicitor for a number of government agencies and departments, including Local Land Services and the New South Wales Environmental Protection Agency.
In addition to his legal advocacy work, Russell boasts extensive experience negotiating and liaising with government bodies, particularly in local government and planning laws. His firsthand knowledge of Local Government Planning Law and Local Government Regulations stems from his qualifications and history working in Local Government, allowing him to offer practical and effective solutions.
Russell trained and worked as a mediator for the New South Wales Attorney General’s Department through the Community Justice Program.
His mediation experience extends to a wide range of disputes, including workplace, family law, family provision (estates), and neighbourhood conflicts. Russell’s comprehensive background in legal practice, building surveying, and town planning provides him with invaluable “real world” and “on the job” expertise, enabling him to approach problem-solving practically and effectively. With a down-to-earth and pragmatic approach, Russell swiftly identifies core issues and diligently guides parties towards successful resolutions.
Russell’s mediation and negotiation skills have also taken him across borders, having successfully mediated and negotiated in foreign countries including Brazil, United Kingdom, Thailand, Italy, and the UAE during his tenure with the Abu Dhabi-based company BNQ Mirage.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Russell holds a Ministerial Appointment to the NSW Flora and Fauna Trust Board, showcasing his commitment to environmental stewardship, and dedicates his time as a volunteer on numerous committees and public associations.
